Fan Weicheng

Born in January 1943 in Fuquan, Guizhou, originally from Ezhou, Hubei, he joined the Communist Party of China in April 1965. He is currently the dean of the Institute of Public Safety of Tsinghua University, the director of the Institute of Safety Science and Technology of the Department of Engineering Physics, and an academician, professor and doctoral supervisor of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. Mainly engaged in the evolution of fire dynamics and prevention technology, public safety technology in the monitoring and monitoring, prediction and early warning, evacuation, emergency rescue theory and technology and its comprehensive integration.

After graduating from the University of Science and Technology of China, Fan Weicheng devoted himself to higher education. Since teaching for more than 50 years, he has worked tirelessly, pioneered and innovated. In order to improve the important and urgent historical mission of China's security system, from computational combustion to fire science to public safety, he has never given up the pursuit of innovation and progress.

On November 13, the 2020 Annual Conference on Combustion Science of the Chinese Society of Engineering Thermophysics and the National Natural Science Foundation Combustion Project Progress Exchange Conference opened in Xiamen. At the opening ceremony of the conference, the founder of the State Key Laboratory of Fire Science of the University of Science and Technology of China Professor Fan Weicheng, director of the current laboratory academic committee and academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, won the 2020 "Outstanding Contribution Award" in Combustion Science of the Chinese Society of Engineering Thermophysics ". Professor Fan Weicheng was awarded an honorary certificate by researcher Jin Hongguang, chairman of the Chinese Society of Engineering Thermophysics and academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

Professor Fan Weicheng graduated from the University of Science and Technology of China in 1965, majoring in Engineering Thermophysics and stayed at the university.

1979-1982 Visiting Scholar at Imperial College, UKIn 1987, he was promoted to professor at the University of Science and Technology of China. In the same year, in view of the weak situation of fire research in China, he proposed to the state to establish a State Key Laboratory of fire science and was approved. For more than 30 years, Professor Fan Weicheng has long been committed to the research on the dynamic evolution of fire breeding, occurrence and development, as well as the research and development and engineering application of key fire prevention technologies. He has served as the first national key basic research and development plan (973 plan) of the Ministry of science and technology. Chief scientist of fire safety project. He is the founder of the field of fire science in my country and the leader of the development of disciplines in this field. He established a safety engineering undergraduate, master's, and doctoral program with fire mechanism and prevention technology as the backbone and characteristics at the University of Science and Technology of China. Classic textbooks and works such as "A Brief Course of Computational Combustion", "A Concise Course of Fire Science", "Introduction to Public Safety Science" and other classic textbooks and works edited by him have trained generations of professional and technical personnel in fire science and safety engineering for my country. The development of higher education has made outstanding contributions. Based on Professor Fan Weicheng's foundational work in discipline construction, the Safety Science and Engineering Discipline of the University of Science and Technology of China, which relies on the construction of the State Key Laboratory of Fire Science, has become the fourth round of discipline evaluation A discipline of the Ministry of Education and has been selected as a "double first-class" construction discipline in the world. In 1992, together with Japanese and Russian scholars, he founded the Asian-Australian Fire Science and Technology Society, successively serving as vice chairman, chairman and honorary chairman, and won the first Lifetime Achievement Award of the Asian-Australian Fire Science and Technology Society and the Sjölin Award of the International Forum of Directors of Fire Research Institutions. In 2001, Professor Fan Weicheng was elected academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering.

In the 21st century, facing the major needs of national public security and the forefront of world public security technology, Professor Fan Weicheng founded the Institute of Public Security of Tsinghua University in 2003, and subsequently established the Asia-Pacific Society of Public Security Science and Technology and the Society of Public Security Science and Technology (China). In recent years, Professor Fan Weicheng has participated in the strategic research and outline formulation of my country's national medium and long-term science and technology development plan. He has served as the special plan for the public security field of the Ministry of Science and Technology, the "13th Five-Year" national key research and development plan, public security, and the science and technology winter Olympics. The leader of the expert group gave a special lecture at the collective study meeting of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee. He has won the first prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award once, the second prize twice, the national teaching achievement award 1. the second prize once, and the National May 1st Labor Medal.

The award of the "Outstanding contribution Award" in combustion science of the Chinese Society of Engineering Thermophysics is a commendation for Professor Fan Weicheng's long-term great contributions to the field of fire science and public safety science and technology in China and even the world.

The Annual Conference of Combustion Science of the Chinese Society of Engineering Thermophysics is co-sponsored by the Combustion Branch of the Chinese Society of Engineering Thermophysics and the Engineering Science Department of the National Natural Science Foundation of China. It is the highest level and largest academic event in the field of combustion in China. The number of participants in this annual meeting reached more than 1700, a record high. Researcher Liu Naian, director of the State Key Laboratory of Fire Science, gave an invitation report on "Research on the Acceleration Mechanism of Large-scale Forest Surface Fire Spread". The teachers and students of the fire laboratory also won one excellent paper award and one excellent popular science work award.

During the meeting, nearly 80 alumni and teachers and students of the University of Science and Technology of China took a group photo with Professor Fan Weicheng.
